Kathy McCreedy is a calligrapher & collage artist living in Royal Oak, MI. She was intrigued with calligraphy as a teenager after seeing an envelope addressed in blackletter, and was hooked. She spent countless hours drawing blackletter style letters and filling them in with black India ink, because she didn’t know how to manipulate the Speedball pen her older brother bought her.
Now Kathy is proficient in Copperplate, Uncial, Blackletter, and Italic lettering. Kathy is also comfortable with the “modern calligraphy” seen being used today, which is sometimes also called “gestural calligraphy”.
Kathy has had the privilege of studying with Sheila Waters, Pat Blair (Chief White House Calligrapher), John Stevens, Denis Brown, Yves Leterme, Mike Kecsig, Paul Shaw, Michael Sull, Mike Gold, Paul Shaw, Peter Thornton, Lothar Hoffman, & Yukimi Annand.
Kathy’s specialties include invitation design, commissioned pieces, original calligraphic art, and collage.
